Montana Sapphire MONTANA SAPPHIRE
GeoGem mines a portion of the famous "Rock Creek" deposit of Sapphires located near Philipsburg, Montana. This complex deposit has yielded large quantities of gem quality Sapphires for over 100 years. These "Sapphire Mountains" yield a very mixed variety of fancy colored Sapphires including yellow, orange, padparadscha, pink, violet, green, cornflower blue, and an occasional ruby (red Sapphire). Generally, these fine Sapphires are relatively small cutting gemstones of one third carat to one carat in size. However, large stones or "Doorknobs" as the local miners refer to them are sometimes found - upwards of 30 carats!
